A guide to embroidered scrubs and lab coats for South Florida practices: logo placement, name and credential embroidery, fabrics, laundering and group ordering.
Embroidered scrubs in South Florida do two jobs at once: they tell a patient in the waiting room exactly who is walking toward them, and they make a practice in Coral Gables, Plantation or Boca Raton look like a single organized team. Add embroidered lab coats with a name and credential on the chest, and the whole front office reads as professional before anyone says a word. We stitch medical apparel every week on our multi head machines at our in house embroidery shop in Hollywood, Florida, between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, for practices across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.
Who orders embroidered medical apparel
Medical embroidery is not one market. Garments, placements and order rhythms differ by practice type.
- Dental offices. Usually the most color coordinated programs. Hygienists, assistants and front desk each in a different scrub color, practice logo on every top, and the dentist in an embroidered lab coat with name and DMD or DDS.
- Private medical practices and urgent care. Logo on scrub tops for clinical staff, lab coats for physicians, PAs and NPs, and polos for front desk and billing.
- Med spas and aesthetics. A fashion forward version: fitted scrub tops, soft colors, tonal thread, often a monogram style logo. Lab coats for injectors with name and credential.
- Veterinary clinics. Durable scrubs that handle fur and frequent washing, bold logos, and often a paw or silhouette mark that embroiders well.
- Chiropractic, physical therapy and home health. Polos and scrub tops with the logo left chest, sometimes a phone number or website on the back yoke because staff are visible in the community.
- Hospital systems and surgical centers. Larger orders, stricter laundering specs and strict color coding by role. Often lab coats with name, credential and department.

Practice name and logo on scrub tops
A practice logo on a scrub top lives on the left chest, 3 to 4 inches wide, centered roughly over the heart and clear of the chest pocket. Most scrub tops have a left chest pocket, so the logo goes just above it, or on the right chest if the pocket sits high.
- Logos with fine medical symbols (a thin caduceus, a stethoscope outline, a tooth with highlights) often need simplifying. Thread cannot hold hairlines, and text under about 0.25 inches tall fills in.
- Many practices split the design: the logo mark on the left chest and the practice name as a clean line of text on the right chest or sleeve.
- A sleeve logo at 2 to 3 inches is a good option for V neck tops where the chest area is busy with pockets and pen slots.
Scrub colors vary widely, so thread is matched to PMS as closely as polyester allows, and we check the logo against each scrub color before the run. A navy logo on ceil blue reads differently from the same logo on wine.
Name and credential embroidery
A name and credential stitched on the garment does not fall off like a badge, never needs reprinting and is readable across the room.
| Line | Example | Typical size | Placement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name only | Maria Gonzalez | 0.3 to 0.4 in tall, up to 3.5 in wide | Right chest, mirrored to the logo height |
| Name and credential | Maria Gonzalez, RN | Same height, credential set off by a comma | Right chest |
| Name over title | Dr. James Lee / DMD | Two lines, 0.3 in each | Right chest or lab coat left chest below the logo |
| Name, credential, department | A. Patel, PA-C / Urgent Care | Two lines | Lab coat left chest |
| Role only | Hygienist, Front Desk | 0.3 in tall | Right chest or sleeve |
Common credentials we stitch: MD, DO, DMD, DDS, RN, LPN, BSN, PA-C, NP, APRN, CRNA, RDH, CDA, DVM, CVT, PT, DPT, OT, LMT and RT. Spelling and punctuation are confirmed on a proof before a single name runs. Script fonts are available for names, but we recommend a clean block or serif at these sizes so a credential like "APRN" stays crisp.
Personalization is handled per garment, so a 14 person practice can order 14 different names in one job with no minimum order. Keep a spreadsheet of names and credentials and it carries over to every reorder.
Lab coat embroidery
Lab coats offer more room and a smoother canvas than scrubs. Poplin and twill blends hold stitches cleanly with very little puckering, which is why lab coats carry the most detailed medical embroidery.
- Left chest: practice logo at 3 to 4 inches, with the name and credential stitched directly below it, or the name and credential alone on the left chest if there is no logo.
- Right chest: name and credential when the logo takes the left, or a department name for hospital systems.
- Sleeve: a hospital system or university affiliation mark at 2 to 3 inches.
- Back: rarely embroidered on lab coats; a practice name across the yoke at 4 to 5 inches is the exception for mobile and home health teams.
Lab coats come in consultation, mid and full length and in fitted women's cuts, and placement heights shift slightly between them, so tell us the style. Our embroidery placement guide has the baseline numbers.
Fabric considerations for scrubs and lab coats
Modern scrubs are mostly poly rayon spandex blends, soft and stretchy, which is great to wear and a little tricky to embroider. Stretch fabric moves under the needle, so the design is digitized with extra underlay and sewn with a stabilizer that keeps the logo flat when the fabric relaxes. A dense fill that would be fine on a twill lab coat can pucker on a four way stretch top, so we keep scrub logos lighter and open where the artwork allows.
- Poly cotton scrubs: easiest to embroider, hold stitches well, shrink a little in hot laundering.
- Poly rayon spandex scrubs: need stabilizer and lighter density; best with simple logos and names.
- Performance polyester scrubs: wick well and barely shrink; stitches stay flat.
- Poplin lab coats: smooth, stable, ideal for detailed crests and two line names.
- Twill lab coats: heavier, very stable, take the densest designs.
We embroider garments you supply or garments we source, so if the practice has standardized on a scrub brand and color, send them to us.
Infection control and laundering
Medical apparel gets washed hot and often, whether at home, in the practice's own machines or through a commercial healthcare laundry. Polyester embroidery thread was built for this. It holds color through water above 160 F, chlorine sanitizing and heavy tumble drying, which is why it is the standard for uniform programs and why we do not use rayon thread on medical orders.
- Embroidered scrubs and lab coats can run with the regular healthcare laundry load. No special handling is needed for the thread.
- The fabric, not the embroidery, sets the care limits. Follow the garment label for temperature.
- Puckering after a hot wash is a fabric shrink issue and is prevented with proper stabilizer at the embroidery stage and lower dryer heat at home.

Group ordering across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach
A practice with locations in Doral, Pembroke Pines and Delray Beach needs the same logo, same thread and same placement in every office. We keep one digitized file per logo per size and a thread list on record, so the Delray order in March matches the Doral order from last year. Digitizing is a one time step; after that, reorders are a matter of sending sizes and names.
Private practice ordering
Private practices usually order in small batches tied to hiring. There is no minimum, so a new hygienist gets two tops with her name within the normal workflow. Many practices order a couple of extra logo only tops in common sizes so a new hire has something branded on day one while personalized pieces are stitched.
Hospital systems and multi site groups
Larger systems around Jackson, Baptist, Memorial and Broward Health campuses tend to order by department, with role based color coding and strict credential formatting. We work from a roster, proof the full name list, and ship by location or department. See bulk and corporate orders for how larger programs are organized, and how to run a company uniform program for the planning side.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I get embroidered scrubs in South Florida?
Imperial Custom Apparel embroiders scrub tops and lab coats in house at our shop in Hollywood, Florida, between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, for practices across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. There is no minimum order, so a solo dentist or a 40 person urgent care group can both order. We embroider garments you supply or source them for you.
Can you embroider names and credentials on lab coats in Miami?
Yes. Name and credential embroidery such as Maria Gonzalez, RN or Dr. James Lee, DMD is stitched at about 0.3 to 0.4 inches tall on the right chest or below the logo on the left chest of a lab coat. Every name is proofed for spelling before it runs, and personalization is per garment with no minimum, so a full practice roster can go in one order.
Does embroidery hold up to hospital laundering and hot washing?
Polyester embroidery thread holds color through water above 160 F, chlorine sanitizing and commercial tumble drying, so embroidered scrubs and lab coats can run with the regular healthcare laundry load. The garment fabric, not the thread, sets the temperature limit. Proper stabilizer at the embroidery stage prevents puckering after hot washes.
What scrub fabrics work best for embroidery?
Poly cotton and performance polyester scrubs embroider easily and keep stitches flat. Poly rayon spandex stretch scrubs can be embroidered too, but the design needs stabilizer and lighter density, so simple logos and names work best on them. Poplin and twill lab coats are the most stable and carry the most detailed designs.
How do dental offices in Broward and Palm Beach order matching embroidered scrubs?
Most dental practices pick a scrub color per role, put the practice logo on every top at the left chest, and add names or titles on the right chest. We keep the digitized logo and thread colors on record, so each new hire's tops match the originals. Many offices order a few extra logo only tops in common sizes so new staff are branded on day one.
