Illustrative DTF supplies cost per month for one and three printer shops: ink, film and powder use, reorder cadence, buffer stock and how no minimum helps cash flow.
If you are trying to work out your DTF supplies cost per month, the honest answer is that it depends on three numbers you already know: how many transfers you make, how big they are, and how much white ink you lay down. Everything else is multiplication. This article builds an illustrative monthly budget for a one printer shop and a three printer shop at current prices on the DTF supplies we stock in Miami, then covers reorder cadence, buffer stock and cash flow. Treat every number as an estimate and swap in your own volumes.

The three consumables that make up DTF supplies cost
A DTF shop buys three things on repeat: pigment ink, PET film and hot melt powder. Parchment and gloves round to noise. Current pricing is on the product page; at time of writing:
- Ink: $50 per 1 kg bottle of DTF pigment ink, sold by color, so white can be restocked on its own.
- Film: $85 per 100 meter roll in every width and type.
- Powder: $2.80 per kg in 1 kg bags, $5.60 for 2 kg, $14 for 5 kg, $56 for 20 kg.
Working assumptions, all illustrative: a 25 x 30 cm adult front print (about 10 x 12 inches) uses roughly 1 to 2 mL of ink, about 60 percent white on dark garments; about 10 grams of powder after shake off; and about 0.31 m of 33 cm film or 0.15 m of 60 cm film ganged two across. Our cost per print breakdown shows where each of those figures comes from.
DTF supplies cost per month for a one printer shop
Picture an A3+ printer on 33 cm film, running five days a week and producing about 600 adult transfers a month, mostly on dark cotton.
Ink
600 prints at 1.5 mL is 900 mL, roughly 0.9 kg: about 540 mL white and 360 mL CMYK across four colors. In practice you buy a white bottle monthly and a CMYK bottle of each color every three to four months. Monthly equivalent: $50 white plus about $65 CMYK, around $115.
Film
600 prints at 0.31 m on 33 cm film is about 186 meters, just under two rolls: about $170 a month.
Powder
600 prints at 10 g is 6 kg. A 5 kg bag plus a 1 kg bag: about $17.
Total illustrative DTF supplies cost per month for this shop: about $300, roughly $0.50 per transfer. If those transfers sell for $4 to $8 pressed, or $2 to $4 as unpressed gang sheet transfers, consumables are a small slice of revenue. The bigger risks are film wasted on reprints and a stalled white channel, which is why ink quality matters more than ink price.
DTF supplies cost per month for a three printer shop
Now picture a production floor: two 60 cm roll to roll printers and one A2 printer on 42 cm film, a shaker dryer and two presses, making around 4,000 adult equivalent transfers a month.
Ink
4,000 prints at 1.5 mL is about 6 kg: roughly 3.6 kg white and 2.4 kg CMYK. That is about four white bottles and two and a half CMYK bottles a month: roughly $200 plus $125, around $325.
Film
Say 3,000 prints run two across on 60 cm film at 0.15 m each (450 m, 4.5 rolls) and 1,000 run on 42 cm at about 0.2 m each (200 m, 2 rolls). About 6.5 rolls a month: roughly $550.
Powder
4,000 prints at 10 g is 40 kg. Two 20 kg bags: $112.
Total illustrative monthly consumables: just under $1,000 for 4,000 transfers, about $0.25 each. Per transfer cost roughly halves versus the one printer shop, and almost all of that saving is film: 60 cm rolls ganged two across use half the film per print. Ink and powder scale with volume. Shops at this level should text us for bulk pricing.

Film is the largest line at every size and the one you control through layout and width. Powder is the smallest and the one most shops over buy. Our film width guide covers how the width decision moves the film line.
Reorder cadence: how often each consumable actually runs out
The three consumables run out on different clocks.
- White ink runs out first. A one printer shop empties a bottle roughly monthly, a three printer shop weekly. Because we sell ink by the color, you restock white alone.
- Film runs out predictably once you know your meters per week. Most shops reorder when the second to last roll goes on the printer.
- Powder runs out slowly. The failure mode is an open bag absorbing humidity for two months. Buy the size you use in four to six weeks.
- CMYK ink runs out unevenly. Magenta and black usually go first; yellow lasts longest. Watch individual bottles rather than buying a full set each time.
A simple rule the shops we supply use: set a par level for each item equal to two weeks of use plus one unit, and reorder whenever stock drops to par. Our reorder schedule and par levels article has a worksheet for this.
What no minimum order does to cash flow
Most wholesale suppliers want case quantities. A three printer shop then ties up thousands of dollars in stock that sits for weeks, and a one printer shop often cannot meet the minimum and pays retail elsewhere.
No minimum order changes the arithmetic in three ways:
- You buy what you use this month. The one printer shop above spends about $300 a month. With no minimum, that is what leaves the account, not $1,500 up front for a case of everything.
- You restock the one color that is low. A single white bottle is a $50 order, not a $250 set.
- You test before you commit. One roll of a new film type or one 1 kg bag of a new powder grade is a line on an order, not a separate wholesale account.
Wholesale pricing from the first unit is the other half. Cost per piece still falls with quantity for shops that reorder, and bulk pricing by text is there for multi printer shops. The detail is in our article on wholesale DTF supplies with no minimum order.
Buffer stock: how much to keep without tying up cash
Buffer stock is insurance against a delay or a sudden order. Too little and a rush job stalls; too much and cash sits on a shelf while open film and powder degrade in Florida humidity. A sensible buffer:
- One printer shop: one unopened white bottle ($50), one unopened roll of your main film ($85), one sealed 1 or 2 kg bag of your main powder ($2.80 to $5.60). Under $150 in buffer stock.
- Three printer shop: two white bottles, one of each CMYK color, two rolls of 60 cm film, one 5 kg bag of your daily grade and 1 kg of any specialist grade. Around $600 in buffer stock, roughly three weeks of cover.
Keep the buffer sealed and rotate it: when a new order lands, the buffer goes on the printer and the new stock becomes the buffer. Because our stock ships from Miami with tracked USPS shipping and ultra fast shipping times, shops across the US can hold a smaller buffer than with an overseas supplier. Our DTF supplies page shows what is in stock right now.
Write your own version of the table above from last month's transfer count, compare it with what you actually spent, and if the gap is large look at reprints before price. Then order exactly that amount from a supplier that lets you: ink, film and powder in stock in Miami, Florida at wholesale pricing from the first unit, no minimum, tracked shipping and replacement for anything that arrives damaged.
Frequently asked questions
How much do DTF supplies cost per month for a small shop?
For a one printer shop producing about 600 adult transfers a month, an illustrative DTF supplies cost per month is around $300: roughly $115 in ink, $170 in film and $17 in powder at current pricing. That works out to about $0.50 per transfer in consumables. Smaller volumes scale down almost in proportion.
How much DTF ink does a print shop use per month?
A typical 25 x 30 cm transfer uses about 1 to 2 mL of ink, roughly 60 percent of it white on dark garments. A shop making 600 transfers a month uses about 0.9 kg, so about one white bottle a month and a CMYK bottle of each color every three to four months. A 4,000 transfer shop uses about 6 kg, around four white bottles plus two to three CMYK bottles a month.
How often should a DTF shop reorder supplies?
Set a par level for each item at about two weeks of use plus one unit, and reorder whenever stock hits par. White ink reorders most often, film on a predictable meters per week schedule, and powder every four to six weeks in the bag size you actually consume so it does not sit open absorbing humidity.
Is it cheaper to buy DTF supplies in bulk or as needed?
With wholesale pricing from the first unit and no minimum order, buying as needed costs the same per unit as a case and keeps cash in the business. Cost per piece still falls with quantity for shops that reorder regularly, and multi printer shops can text for bulk pricing. Buy bulk only when your monthly consumption justifies it.
